“I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no ‘brief candle’ to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment; and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.”

Originally, I thought this was a Northern Spotted Owl, but research shows it to be a Barred Owl, a non-native that is crowding out the endangered Spotted Owl through much of its territory.

We couldn’t find the gathering that we were supposed to attend in the park and walked around in circles trying to find it. We found this owl while walking through the woods. It was a bit of a surprise.
